Sailing on Lake Union

Bill took us (Clare, Me, Nick, Faye, Schuyler) out on his boat.  Very nice.  Had a picnic on the boat and watched the sunset.  Very nearly got snared up in nets that a native tribe had placed round the marina (they have Salmon fishing rights in Lake Union).

Here is a bunch of photos from the above wedding, we had a fabulous time. Nick and Faye looked so happy, it was lovely.

Waterfall – the last of the Cascades

This was a waterfall right at the end of our journey through the Cascades which I had fun trying to photograph, you can judge how successful I was!

The Lakes

These were the dramatic looking lakes right up high in the Cascades. The first one is Ross Lake and the second Diablo, the interesting colour in Diablo Lake is from Glacial ‘flour’, ground from the surrounding rock.

The North Cascades – Washington Pass Overlook

This was an amazing day, I took so many photos I ran out of space. The drive we took was really spectacular and we also saw lots of ageing bikers. The photos are of:

a glacial river on the way up the pass;

Liberty Bell (big mountain that looks like a bell x2);

Washington Pass Overlook (down the road we came up);

a roadside waterfall;

a plane going over the top of the Cascades;

arty rock face (for George xx);

burnt tree

and finally a cute shot of Mum and Dad.

Winthrop

The Original Frontier town – went to Three Fingered Jack’s for dinner. We also stayed at a really lovely inn with hot tub, which the night photo is taken from.

Carlton

This place was very America wild west, as you can see from the photos, Mum did still attempt to get a cappuccino in the General Store.

Lake Chelan

A very, very large lake, which had lots of people on it, we however drove right up into the mountains and had a picnic completely isolated above the hub bub.

Leavenworth

Leavenworth is a faux Bavarian town (used to just be a logging outpost) in the middle of the Cascades. It was slightly disappointing, this is a photo of one of the buildings on the High Street.

Moon Valley

After leaving Yakima we went up a very barren valley (to the point where is was a moon-like landscape) and stopped for lunch by a grove of redwoods. Dad and I paddled in the river.

Yakima

It was pretty hot when we got here, and took us as long to find the hotel from the airport as it took George to get all the way back to Seattle in his little aeroplane. This picture is of the Soda Fountain (‘Grease’ – like hangout) outside Yakima Museum, which we spent a morning wandering around.

Mt Rainier

We went down from Seattle through a place called Enumclaw (something to do with evil spirits – though they do damn good mochas) and got to Rainier in the afternoon. It was awesome. I have included a picture of Rainier from Seattle (UDub) at the start to try and give a bit of scale. Being somewhat interested in rocks I also have to include the extrusive basalt columns (sorry).
